January
Happy New Year! I hope you had a fun, restful and safe holiday!
In January, we will continue to work on listening for new letter sounds, blending the sounds into words and learning more sight words. Lots of decodable sentences and stories have been coming home. Taking a few minutes to read these will really help your child progress with their reading. If your child struggles, just try for one sentence a day and most importantly, praise their efforts! Reading is hard work! I have listed the reading themes for the next few weeks below:
How Does Your Garden Grow Initial "h" sight word: my
Trees Initial/Medial "e" sight word: are
Fresh From the Farm Initial "f", "r" sight word: with
The Four Seasons Initial/Final "b" and Initial "l" sight word: is
In math, we will continue to review addition and subtraction problems but also move on to the "teen" numbers. The focus will be on understanding what they mean. For example, 11=10+1. We have been practicing this on our daily calendar for many weeks already. We will also practice accurately counting bigger sets and writing the numbers to 20. Counting to 100 by 1's and 10's is an important Kindergarten goal and we practice regularly.
Thank you for your help and support at home!
